Digital Art Direction - Photography
Digital design brings movement, life and beauty to the world. This can all happen even while keeping best practices in mind.
I am an experienced Art Direction for Still Life Photography, Animation, On-Figure, In-Studio, On-Location: Apparel, Jewelry, Accessories, Home and Pets.
Wide for the Web
Most of these shots were photographed specifically for the website since catalogs tend to be so vertical, so shots that were more horizontal were needed for homepages, landing pages, emails and banners.
More-Than-Jewelry
Art Director
I art directed a lot of jewelry shots, but I also directed women's and men's apparel and accessories shots, soft goods, rooms/furniture, home decor, on-figure photography, furry friends - in-studio or on-location.
Holiday Internet
Editorial Shoot
I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team each year in May at the top of a snowy mountain in Utah's Little Cottonwood Canyon. We shot editorial photography for the web and occasionally they made the cover of the catalog as well.
Snow!
Occasionally during the shoot, like the one above, a full-on snowstorm would break out… yes, in May! The snow was still knee deep but so beautiful.
Holiday Christmas Tree
We waited at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon (Alta Ski Resort) waiting for the sun to set so we could shoot the beautiful lighted tree at dusk. We used these shots for Sundance company holiday cards, Christmas day message homepage, email and across social.
Animation
Shots like the one above were usually also animated once they were set up to add a little motion and interest where possible.
Holiday Social Editorials
We wanted to shoot a different type of editorial on-figure photography at Sundance Resort to use on social. We followed less strict rules for showing product, and instead we shot with more movement and emotion and little more fun.
For Furry Friends and
Those Who Love Them
Pets and pet care shots. Below, meet my dog Loca - aptly named - lounging very comfortably on a Sundance dog bed on our back deck - when all else fails, move the photoshoot to your own house. We often used our staff's pets and called them out on social. Wow, people really love and react favorably to dogs on social media.
Zelda
More canine talent, above, meet Zelda, pet of Lorelei in Accounting/Payroll.
Holiday Dogs
With special permission from Alta Resort where there is a watershed, we were able to shoot dogs at the top of the mountain. Meet Brynn's dog. When we weren't able to bring our own dogs up, we were able to use their "rescue" dogs - they are always playful but well-behaved.
Website Product Shots
Depending on the type of shot, we were able to knock out 30+ shots per day.
Editorial for Home
Complicated product shots like these were more difficult and required more planning and time to shoot.
Acquisition and Social
Acquisition and social ads required different shapes. Some of these were also animated with just a little movement for interest.
One-of-a-Kind Mega Shoots for the Web
Seasonally we were given projects to shoot upwards of 50 one-of-a-kind items like these benches. In the instructions: "show a lot of different uses", so we always had to do a lot of planning and get very creative.
